The Grand Marais Art Colony has seen a great deal of growth in recent years and Art Colony Executive Director Amy Demmer said in addition to expanded services, the organization is ready to expand staff. The Art Colony announced last week that it was creating a new position— program director—which brings the organization’s staff to 3.5 employees.

According to Demmer, in the last five years, the Art Colony has served 586 artists by expanding artist services to include studio access, skill building workshops and technical studios. In addition to classes, the Grand Marais Arts Festival in July has increased visitors from 3,000 to 10,000. The Art Colony has also implemented several new events such as the Winter Arts Festival, Northern Fibers Retreat, Artist-in- Residence Program and the very well-attended Tour d’Art: the Home Collection fundraiser.

The person hired to serve as program director will work with Art Colony staff to ensure the Art Colony’s continued success. This is a full-time position primarily working Thursday through Monday. The full job description and details on applying for the position can be seen online at www.grandmaraisartcolony.org.

The Grand Marais Art Colony was founded in 1947 to provide services to artists, promoting art education and supporting art in our community through an environment for creative excellence.
