Last January Arrowhead Pharmacy presented $1,100 to the Cook County High School Booster Club from the sale of the booster club’s Viking gear sold at the store. It was a lot of needed money that is spread around to all of the Viking athletic programs, which have, like many programs in the school district, suffered steep financial cuts in recent years.

So it was with great surprise when Arrowhead Pharmacy announced again it was writing out a check to the booster club—only this time the amount was more than twice as much as last time—$2,600 to the booster club.

“This is really great for the kids. I’m shocked it is so much,” said Jim Roy, president of the booster club.

Roy said the money is used to purchase items like bats and balls and helmets for the softball and baseball teams and to help pay for booster buses to state tournaments. This year the booster club paid for 10 new football helmets and the stenciling on the gym floor.

“Every CCHS athletic team receives support from the booster club,” Roy said.

“We provide the space and take care of the sales and they get 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales,” said George Badeaux, a pharmacist at the store.

“This is the perfect spot for this fundraiser. The Viking memorabilia is sold only here and at the school and these guys have longer hours and see an amazing amount of locals and tourists who get a chance to help support our kids with their purchases of Viking shirts, sweatshirts, hats etc.,” Roy said.

“We are pleased to help support the kids of the community and see this as a long term effort on our part,” said Nate Chandler, chief pharmacist at Arrowhead Pharmacy.
