Promoting general aviation and the Cook County/Grand Marais airport is the major focus of the Arrowhead Eagles, a volunteer organization designed to generate aviation events, education, support enhancements, youth oriented activities, encourage community use and a friendly atmosphere at the airport. The Arrowhead Eagles is now an IRC 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization, dedicated to the following key goals:
* Promote flight training for youth and adults.
* Promote career options available in the aviation industry.
* Seek charitable gift support for aviation related scholarships.
* Promote activities with pilots and aviation organizations in the region.
* Promote fly-in events to build visitor and lodging support.
* Seek aviation items and memorabilia that could be displayed at the airport building.
* Promote aviation history in Cook County.
“We’re delighted to make this announcement,” said Mike Raymond, president of the Arrowhead Eagles. “Since 2011 we’ve envisioned an active, progressive approach to aviation in Cook County, especially since the airport was recently upgraded.
“We look forward to working closely with the Cook County Airport Commission, the Chamber of Commerce and Visit Cook County to enhance public awareness of the year-round attractions in the county, along with the benefits of aviation and ease of using air transportation to get here.”
The Eagles actively welcome anyone interested in aviation, whether a pilot, airplane owner or simply someone interested in aviation-related activities. Membership is free and open to all. The Eagles annual meeting and winter gathering is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at Skyport Lodge.
Anyone interested in joining the Eagles or wanting to ask questions about the organization may contact Mike Raymond at 218- 370-0373, or Rodney Roy at 218-387-2034.
