It’s not exactly the Flintstones meeting the Jetsons, but Cook County just got a bit more modern with the installation of electric vehicle chargers.

Arrowhead Cooperative member owners who own battery powered vehicles, or hybrid vehicles, now have three places they can charge those autos in the county, with more to come in the near future.

Currently there is one 7.7kW level two charger available at the Arrowhead Cooperative headquarters. This is free to use for AC members visiting the offices.

A 25kW fast charger is located adjacent to the Clearview General Store, and in Grand Portage, there is a 7.7kW level two charger and a 25kW fast charger located along the west side of the parking area.

How fast do the chargers work?

In one hour the 25kW fast chargers will be able to give electric vehicles enough juice to travel about 100 miles. The level two chargers should be able to charge at approximately 22 miles (or range) per hour.

Future plans include working out a partnership with the city of Grand Marais to install a 7.7kW level two charger and 25kWfast charger in downtown Grand Marais. These will be available for non-Arrowhead Cooperative members as well as for the membership.

In total, four level two chargers and three fast charging units will be added.

While level two chargers are free for Arrowhead members, the fast charging units network is available through Greenlots. To get Greenlots, one can download the mobile app on one’s Smartphone, or you can order a key fob from Greenlots.com.
