On Tuesday, March 16, 2010, a staff member at Great Expectations School in Grand Marais contacted Cook County Law Enforcement to report a possible gun threat. TheSheriff ’s Department responded and interviewed Great Expectations staff and the students involved in the incident. Although there was no weapon, it was found to be a credible threat and two juvenile males, ages 13 and 14, were arrested and charged with making terroristic threats.
Chief Deputy Leif Lunde said the charter school reacted appropriately to the concern and said he appreciated the cooperation from the Great Expectations administration.
County Attorney Tim Scannell confirmed that charges had been filed. The juveniles have appeared in court, but Scannell said he could provide no further information because the subjects are juveniles. Asked if the juveniles would receive counseling, Scannell replied, “It is definitely our plan to see that they get some help.”
