Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes Water level update



The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers predicts that Lake Superiors outflow through the St. Mary’s River will be below average in March while forecasts show the outflow through the St. Clair River, Lake St. Claire’s outflow into Detroit, Lake Erie’s outflow into Niagara River, and Lake Ontario’s outflow through St. Lawrence River will be above average in March.

Lake Superior water level for March 4 was 600.92 feet, the same as in February. That’s three inches below its average monthly mean for March. Meanwhile lake levels in Michigan-Huron (+1 inch) St. Clair (+ 7 inches), Erie (+ 5 inches) and Ontario (+ 9 inches) are above their February 4 levels.

Holding ten percent of the world’s fresh water, Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake by surface area covering 31`,700 square miles.
