Arlene Kivell Leslie,
79, of Lutsen and Minnetonka, died of cancer at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina on Dec. 3, 2013.
Arlene was born in Austin, Minn. on Nov. 10. 1934, the daughter of Elmer and Elsie Kivell. She attended LeRoy public schools and graduated in 1952. After attending the Minneapolis School of Business she worked in the Trust Department of Northwestern National Bank.
She married Loren Leslie on July 24, 1955. After he graduated from medical school she obtained a degree in interior design but later pursued liberal arts studies at the Golden Valley Lutheran College and the University of Minnesota. The latter was interrupted by the birth of her son, Magnus, after which she became a full-time homemaker, mother and volunteer especially with church and school activities.
Arlene’s design and artistic talents continued to be expressed in beautiful quilting, knitting, sewing and gardening. One of her proudest achievements was her design of their home in Lutsen on the shore of Lake Superior.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Loren Leslie; son Magnus (Amy) of Minneapolis; brother Wayne (Alyce) Kivell of Northfield; brother in-law Richard (Arleen) Leslie of Marysville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Dec. 10 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minnetonka with interment at the LeRoy, Minn. Cemetery.
