Some college coach is going to be lucky to have Ariana Poyirier play for them. The all-everything senior CCHS guard from Grand Portage capped off a stellar senior year by having area coaches name her to the first team All- Conference, quite an honor for a conference stacked with great female basketball players.
At 5’8”, long, strong and lean, Poyirier was a high octane non-stop defensive player, strong on the boards (rebounding), a great ball handler who could get to the basket and a player who possessed a nice touch from three-point land. She was also a good passer, more times than not finding the open player on the corner or underneath the basket.
It should be noted that Ariana averaged about 25 points per game, but many of those baskets were made off of stolen passes or by taking the ball away from the dribbler, after which she would make a beeline down the court for an easy layup.
Just how many rebounds Ariana averaged per game isn’t known at this time, but it has to hover somewhere between 8-12 or more.
Ariana also went over the 1,000-point barrier this season, making her one of only ten or so players in the history of CCHS to reach that milestone.
All in all, Ariana will go down as one of the best athletes to lace up her sneakers and take the court for the Vikings.
