It was a surprise to learn that our elected county board requested a number of select important private citizens to give an opinion as to the need of and how the county’s top management position functions. Such opinions then appeared in the local media. The result, to me, puts the county’s top employee in an untenable position of constantly looking over his/her shoulder when evaluating staff and other decisions.
We elect citizens to evaluate, make decisions and protect the confidentiality of employees’ contracts. To my knowledge at this time, the employees’ grievance is still not settled.
The county board’s actions thus far, in my opinion, are not the way to proceed.

Editor’s note: The employee grievance Mr. Bolstad refers to was dropped after the county board agreed to let the union have a representative on the committee which deals with jobs and job reclassifications in the county.
