Archie George Kirk Jr.




Archie George Kirk Jr., 74, of Hovland, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1942, to Archie Kirk Sr. and Erma (Knott) in Pine River. Archie grew up at Kirk’s Landing Resort near the end of the Gunflint Trail. He was in the U.S. Navy (Seabees), proudly serving his country in Viet Nam earning an honorable discharge.

Returning to Cook County, he spent many years as a builder of homes and cabins; his craftsmanship was always admired. In 1993, he traveled to Russia and met Natasha in St. Petersburg, and “two souls found each other from opposite sides of the earth.” They were married on Feb. 2, 1994. In recent years they have spent their winter months in Silver Springs, Florida, where they became members of St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church. Family and friends in Minnesota, California, Florida, Russia, and other places miss him deeply and thank God for his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Ivan Kirk.

Archie is survived by a deeply loving wife of 23 years, Natasha; son, Jordan “Jordy” (Heidi Doo-Kirk); stepson, Daniel Chingarev (Jurgita); and six grandchildren.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 188, Hovland; or to St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church, 5200 NE 29th St., Silver Springs, FL 34488.

Rite of Christian Burial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland with burial at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Grand Marais.
