Coming back from Texas where bluebonnets were blooming and the grass was turning bright green to several inches of snow here in Minnesota felt like a prank. Not a ha-ha funny prank but a cruel joke. I was ready to start cleaning out the garden beds not scraping the ice from my windshield before work. (You know the drill, a hole just big enough to see the road until the heat breaks it into slosh.) This kind of weather messes with my psyche. I just want to curl up under a blanket and come out when the temperature reaches my age. Or better yet, the age of my parents.
Did you know that the Narwhal, a medium-sized toothed whale that possesses a large “tusk” from a protruding canine tooth, migrates to the shores of Lake Superior every April?
From Duluth to Grand Marais there are several sightings each year. As children, we would go to the shore with a bag of the World’s Best Doughnuts and play ring toss on their tusks. Of course, cell phones were not available at the time so there is no record of such a game. You must rely on the memory of your dear writer and I never lie, except on April 1st. I do love a good social media April Fools prank though. I found the narwhal one posted 12 months ago and had to wait an entire year to put it on my Facebook page. The comments had me laughing in tears all day.
I also sent close friends and family proof of a chick sending bikini photos to Mike on his cell phone. My children came to their dad’s defense. Others were shocked, some were angry, and one offered support of her spare room in case I needed time to think. (It’s lovely to know who your friends are in a time of crisis.) Mike just panicked until I sent him her picture. I’ll never get away with this one again!
Friends, the message here is to remember to laugh. Good, hard belly laughs that make you remember joy. Peace and hugs to you, Sandy
