It was wonderful to listen to Grand Portage Elder Billy Blackwell on WTIP talk about the origin of wild rice and all of the things they had to do to get it all ready.
It was things I did not know, and was obviously a lot of haul work. On the radio I listen to him and the other speakers talk about the real history of Cook County.
I wish I could have been there to hear all of them speak.
The Cook County News-Herald showed us pictures and some of what they talked about at a Cook County Historical Society event. They were all so good, and Mr. Blackwell was, and is, so interesting and a wonderful speaker talking on cultural history.
