Appalled at Duluth news coverage of Grand Marais

I am appalled by the Duluth newspaper article [February 28, 2012 – Courthouse shooting reveals darker side of Grand Marais] painting our town as black. Couldn’t they interview enough people here that would tell them about the good things our community does?

We have award-winning basketball and football teams, award-winning Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, a ministerial group who do great things. What about our Folk House, Playhouse, arts center and museum? What about our high school band which will be performing in the south and also our community choir and orchestra who perform twice a year?

The article portrayed Daniel Schlienz as a victim and part of the “norm” here. If these 14- and 15-year-old girls run after older men, their intentions were wrong but their brains are not fully developed until they are in their 20s. However, the older men have fully developed brains and can say “no.”

I suggest the good men and good young girls of our nice town come forward and be known.
