Anticipating outdoor fun at Birch Grove

We are soooooo close to surviving another winter on the West End. I personally am really looking forward to spring. Green grass, budding trees, warm breezes and all things growing have a wonderful way of motivating me gently out of hibernation. Everyone is getting anxious for outdoor fun, which for me does not involve snow.

Here’s what’s happening at Birch Grove Community Center:

AARP Tax Aide Program is available on Thursdays from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. in community room 1.

All persons with moderate to low incomes and all seniors 60+ are eligible for free assistance with their 2016 federal and state Individual Income Tax returns and their Minnesota Property Tax and Rent Refund Forms. E-file is available in most cases, usually Minnesota refunds are received in one to two weeks and federal refunds in two to four weeks.

Please bring all your 2016 tax documents with you, as well as your Social security card and photo ID. No appointment is needed, first come, first served basis.

W.E. Fit Exercise is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in community room 2. Senior Exercise is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Zumba is held on Tuesday in the gym from 10 to 11 a.m. (except on April 11 and May 9, the time is 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.). Arrangements are available for those who would like to come in the evening. We have numerous types of equipment and a good DVD selection available. We need some action in the exercise room – get a group together and prepare for summer!

Pickle Ball is scheduled in the gym on Thursday and Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. (Saturday is subject to change for special event rentals). Please contact Carroll Peterson at 612-377-8748 or carrollpeterson3435@yahoo.com for schedule confirmations or questions. This is fast becoming a very popular sport. Pickle Ball groups are popping up all over Minnesota, now is your chance to learn a new sport for a fast and fun workout.

The Craft ’N Stamp group is meeting on Sunday, April 23 at 1 p.m. in community room 1. Join this creative group and learn how to make gorgeous handcrafted cards, share your latest projects and techniques. Potluck will be enjoyed by all, bring your own drinks. Supplies are $5, or bring your own. Please call Lavona at 218-370-0634 for schedule or questions.

Caregiver Coffee is held the second Friday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in community room 1. This is an informal talk and information session for those in the position of being a caregiver. It really helps to get together with others in similar situations to share your feelings and knowledge.

The Nail/Foot Care clinic is available the third Wednesday of each month. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic provides the service. Appointments begin at 12:30 p.m. and each session is approximately a half hour. Bring a foot basin, towel and $10 cash. Reservations must be made in advance at 663- 7977.

Senior Lunch is every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Come in and enjoy an always-wonderful meal prepared and served by Barb Merritt. The current menu is posted on Boreal Community Calendar on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. Please call 663-7977 in advance if you are not a regular yet or let us know if you will not be attending. See you at lunch!

As always, thank you to those who participate, contribute and donate!
