The weather was cool, though not as cool as the autos on display at the 2013 Annual Classic Car Show held again on Wisconsin Street in downtown Grand Marais on Saturday, June 15.

And if the sun wasn’t out, the cars shone like well-polished Lake Superior agates on Wisconsin Street, brightening the gray day.

All of the cars, trucks, and motorcycles shown at the 2013 annual classic car show were stunning in their own way, but Ozzie DiStefano’s 1956 Cadillac Sedan De Ville was named People’s Choice Award.

Locally, Jerry Loh of Tofte won the Class B, cars from 1951-1964, award for his refurbished 1958 Chevrolet Impala. Jerry also won with his 1958 Ford retractable hard top in the Class G, convertible, class.

Rhonda Schulte, Grand Marais, won with her 1979 Dodge Warlock II entry in the Class E truck division.

Paul Samuelson, Grand Marais, placed first with his 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 in the Class H, 2-seat sport, class, and Jim Gulstrand, also of Grand Marais, won with his 1989 Mercury XR4TI in the Class J, foreign, class.

Other top finishers from Cook County included Jennifer Backstrom, Grand Marais, with her thirdplace finish in Class C, cars from 1965-1974, with her hot 1968 RSS Camaro entry. Antonio Stemp of Hovland placed second in the Class L, 1992 & newer, division with his sweet 2011 Ford Mustang.

Paul Pederson of Maple Hill won the Class K, motorcycle class, with his 1946 Harley Davidson WL Sport Solo.

“I thought the event went okay considering what the weather was like,” said event coordinator Bev Wolke.

This year there were 49 cars entered, down from last year’s 72 vehicles. Wolke attributed that to a couple of things.

“We didn’t get nearly as many entrants from Thunder Bay this year because there were a couple of other opportunities closer to home for them to be a part of. Then, we moved the event forward one week because my daughter was graduating from high school and I had that planned before I learned that I would again be the coordinator for the car show. Next year we will probably move the event back to its original time slot,” Wolke said.

All in all, said Wolke, “I really want to thank the American Legion—they did a phenomenal job with the food—and the band that played and the Girl Scouts that helped and everyone that helped out. Overall it was a really nice show and it was great to have it once again on Wisconsin Street.”
