Annie Mack to appear at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts on September 4th

It comes as no surprise to those who have heard her perform that Annie Mack, the powerful and soulfully riveting singer who writes and performs her own blend of blues, rock, country, and soul, has recently been heralded by the Star Tribune as “Minnesota’s heir to the Mavis Staples throne.”

Raised in North Minneapolis in the 1980’s, Mack grew up immersed in the sounds of the funk and soul-rich Twin Cities music scene. Inspired as a young adult by her mother’s love of music, she began performing at local venues, where she soon earned a reputation as a powerhouse blues singer. Before long she gained acclaim on the Midwest bar circuit, followed by top North American festivals including the John Coltrane Jazz Festival and the twin cities Jazz Festivals, and the blues and jazz clubs such as Buddy Guy’s Legends and the Dakota.

Over the past eight years Mack has released three acclaimed albums: Baptized in the Blues (2013), Tell It Like It Is (2017), and Testify (2021). She has the honor of being featured in the 2020 book 50 Women in the Blues, along with Bessie Smith, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ruthie Foster, and Janis Joplin.

The North Shore Music Association is thrilled that Annie Mack will be our “let’s” get the party re-started!” artist, bringing back live music to the Arrowhead Center for the Arts after 18 long months.
