Angler dies at Lutsen lake





Robert “Bob” Willard Cain, 74, of Wabasha, MN, died after the boat he was fishing from capsized on White Pine Lake in Lutsen.

Cook County Law Enforcement received a 911 call from Robert Cain’s nephew, Curtis Cain, 50, of Eyota, MN at 6:33 p.m. on July 9. Curtis Cain reported that he was fishing on White Pine Lake with Earl Cain of Lutsen and Robert Cain. According to the law enforcement report, Curtis Cain said his uncle was holding onto the boat after it overturned in windy conditions, but then let go and drifted away. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Robert Cain had a known heart condition and a pacemaker. It is believed he died of natural causes.

Cook County Sheriff Response Unit was called and they recovered Cain’s body on the shoreline on the other side of the lake.
