German pianist Andreas Klein has distinguished himself as a dynamic and compelling performer with command of a wide tonal-color range and imaginative interpretations. The New York Times calls Klein “A fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four Ts of pianism” and “A pianist who makes silences sound like music.”
Klein’s career as orchestra soloist and recitalist has taken him to the world’s most prestigious venues: from London’s Wigmore Hall, to Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, to Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center.
As a chamber musician, Klein’s collaborations include some of the finest ensembles, including the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, the Festival Strings of Luzerne (Switzerland), Cuarteto Casals (Puerto Rico), and the Minetti Quartett (Austria). Klein is a graduate of the Juilliard School and received a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from Rice University. His studies were complemented by mentorships with the legendary Claudio Arrau and Nikita Magaloff.
Klein will perform at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $24 for adults and $5 for youth (18 and under).
Klein’s Grand Marais performance will be a solo concert titled “Unleashing Musical Architecture,” featuring the work of Mozart, Schumann, Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera. On Sunday, April 23, Klein will teach a master class to Cook County piano students, also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The community is invited to attend and listen to this class free of charge.
