For a few more months, Art and Lavonne Anderson will be the Schroeder Citizens of the Year. Citizens are chosen at the township annual meeting in March. The Andersons were nominated because of their kindness and generosity to their fellow Schroeder residents.

The Schroeder Citizens of the Year don’t get the keys to the city or an all-expense paid trip anywhere—but they do get the honor of their name on a lovely plaque at the Schroeder Town Hall, a ride in a classic car at the Tofte 4th of July parade and the deep gratitude of the citizens of the township. For a few more months, the Schroeder Citizens of the Year are Art and Lavonne Anderson.

At the March 2012 annual meeting, the Andersons were nominated for the honor by Horace “Skip” Lamb. Linda Lamb seconded the nomination and the citizens on hand approved it unanimously. It was agreed that the recognition was long overdue.

In explanation of the nomination, citizens noted that Art and Lavonne are dedicated community volunteers. Former Schroeder Town Clerk Carol Tveekrem said, “They are wonderful volunteers and crafters—they make enough Christmas wreaths to decorate half of Schroeder and a couple of local resorts as well!”

Lavonne is known as a great cook and Art a terrific carpenter. Art has done quite a bit of work at the Schroeder Town Hall, such as repairing the stage floor that had been damaged by a roof leak.

Tveekrem spoke for many townspeople when she said, “Basically either or both of them would do anything to help anyone who needs some help.”
