A young Grand Marais hunter’s big buck held up as the most abundant field-dressed deer entered into the 2019 Buck’s Big Buck Contest.
Kole Anderson’s 235-pound, 4-ounce submission topped the rest of the entries. The Cook County ninth-grader entered his buck the first weekend of the contest.
Anderson received a Remington Model 700 BDL 30-06 for his win.
In the largest antler spread category, Kelli Lawrence, Schroeder, took the top honors with her buck’s antler spread of 21½ inches.
Adam DeRock was the lucky winner of the drawing. He and Lawrence split the drawing, each receiving $1975.
All told 390 people took part in the 2019 contest. Each person throws $10 into the pot to join. Half of the prize money goes to the most massive antler spread, and the other half of the money goes to the lucky winner of the drawing.
The Minnesota firearms season ended Sunday, November 24.
