You may have noticed that the Cook County Knowledge Bowl team scored fourth in class A state competition. Let’s break it down.
In sports, there may be as many as six classes. In Knowledge Bowl there are two. That means we were competing with schools up to four times our size including Hibbing and Hermantown (which we outscored). The average enrollment was 50 percent greater than ours. Also included were parochial and private schools, which I affectionately refer to as “ringers,” since they draw a disproportionate number of college-bound students. We scored 107 points, 5 points behind second place, while beating Hermantown by 19.
Just putting things in perspective.
