There was a man who embraced our shores Over sixty years ago. He lived and fought to protect our land, And with us, called it home.
|
He often said that he owed his wife All that he learned, To be in the woods — the native skills — To live, to thrive and stay alive.
|
His dwelling, a destination To not be missed. His windmill, his sculptures — His stories live on.
Many favors for his neighbors, Using his welding skills Building cabins, building docks, Clearing snow, hauling propane
Many friends of the woods — His pet chickadees, His ruffed grouse, a three-footed fox — It was an animal sanctuary.
He fought many fires. With the trial of his life, In ’07 he stayed awake for two days and nights. He fought to save his home — The fire twenty yards away. Even though 85 — he did not give up.
There was a man, who embraced our shores, Over sixty years ago. His stories and memories will live on, A great deal to Irv we owe.
