If you haven’t seen the handiwork of the members of the North Shore Fiber Arts Guild when they gather at Java Moose on Tuesday mornings, here is a small preview of the wonderful and whimsical things to expect at the guild’s holiday sale on December 4.

Even before she was a member of the Northwoods Fiber Guild Holiday Sale, Nina Simonovicz was a fan of the guild’s holiday sale. “I’ve always thought the amazing variety is what sets the Fiber Guild Holiday Sale apart,” she said in a recent interview.

Simonovicz has not only taken up knitting since her first visit to a Fiber Guild Sale, she is now the president of the guild. Simonovicz can be seen at Java Moose every Tuesday morning, visiting with other members of the Fiber Guild as they knit, felt, and create wonderful fiber arts projects. Projects that will be on display at the Saturday, December 4 Holiday Sale.

“It’s more than a sale,” said Simonovicz. “It’s an open house. We spend a lot of time arranging things just so, setting up the tree, and making cookies. People are invited to just come and see what the Fiber Guild members have been up to.”

She said although there will of course be a lot of lovely knitted items on display, there are many other art forms to be seen—felted hats, intricate weaving, even glassware, pottery, and jewelry. “Anything our members are currently working on can be seen,” said Simonovicz. “It’s really about everyone exploring their art.”

Stop and explore for yourself at the Grand Marais Art Colony on Saturday, December 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In addition to quality handmade fiber arts holiday gifts to peruse or purchase, there will be refreshments, music and demonstrations.

Like always there will be a fun hands-on project to enjoy. This year visitors are invited to make a tiny book. All ages are encouraged to give it a try.
