Return your overdue books and movies to the Grand Marais Public Library during the week of Monday, Jan. 24 through Saturday, Jan. 29 and all fines and replacement charges will be deleted from you borrower record. The library board is offering people a chance to begin 2011 with a clean slate.
The loan period for most books is four weeks, with a generous two-week renewal time. Brand new books check out for two weeks and movies for seven days. When library materials are two months overdue, the computer gives them a status of “Lost” and puts a replacement charge in the borrower’s record.
Each year, due to a variety of circumstances, people keep books and other library property longer than they should. This prevents other people from borrowing titles that they want and diminishes the size of our collection. The reason public libraries work so well as a community resource is that patrons follow the time-honored system of sharing books purchased with everyone’s tax dollars. So, if you find any overdue books or movies lying around your house, please return them to the library so others can use them and we can spend money on new items instead of replacing lost ones.
Please take advantage of this special Amnesty Week. Library fine rates for 2011 will increase to 25 cents per day for adult items and 15 cents per day for juvenile and teen items starting Feb. 1 If you want to return books anonymously, slip them in the book drop after dark!
