The Cook County Senior Legion baseball team took a 3-2 win over the American Legion team from Virginia, Minnesota.
The game was played on Tuesday, June 25 at home on the Arleigh Jorgenson field.
Despite quiet bats, the Vikings managed to score two runs in the second inning, one of those coming off an error. Those two runs staked the Vikings to a tenuous lead.
Both teams scored one run in the fifth and Virginia tacked on one more run in the sixth but failed to score in the top of the seventh, giving the Vikings a narrow win.
Adam Dorr took the win on the mound. Adam allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings.
Riley Tiboni led the team at the plate with two hits. The only other Viking to get a hit was Vaughn Swindlehurst. The Vikings scored one run on an error in the second inning. Tiboni, Andrew Miller, and Tate Crawford each had an RBI in the game.
Cook County Junior Legion falls 10-0 to Virginia
Virginia scored two runs in the first, one more in the fourth and then put the game away with seven big runs in the fifth inning to tenrun the Vikings in five innings.
The two teams met following the Senior Legion game played on Tuesday, June 25.
Patrick Pierre took the loss for Cook County Junior Legion. Patrick gave up three runs on five hits in a little over four innings.
Virginia ran wild on the base paths, stealing 13 bases. They also got nine hits in the game.
Top Cook County Junior Legion hitters were Riley Tarver, Jacob Dorr, Adam Dorr, and DJ Seidel, who each collected one hit.
Virginia’s winning pitcher was Daniel Moore. Daniel pitched five innings giving up four hits and no runs while striking out four.
Ely sneaks by Senior Legion team
The Cook County Senior Legion team traveled to Ely on Thursday, June 27 and lost 3-2.
Down 1-0 after the second inning, Cook County Senior Legion would score two runs in the sixth inning and lead 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. Ely’s Tyler Housey singled on a 1-2 count to drive in two runs, giving Ely the win.
Andrew Miller took the mound for the Vikings. Over five innings Andrew struck out 10, gave up three hits and allowed one run. Timmy Perfetto, who pitched one and one-third innings relieved Andrew. Perfetto gave up two runs on four hits and was the losing pitcher.
Andrew Miller finished with two hits in two at bats. Ero Wallin and Joe Deschampe were the only other players on the Cook County Senior Legion team to get a hit.
Trevor Mattson was the winning pitcher, giving his team seven strong innings. He allowed four hits, two runs and struck out eight. He also led his team in hitting by going 2-3 at the plate.
Cook County Senior Legion finished with one error and Ely ended the game error free.
