America, it is time to awaken to what is happening in our beloved country! President Obama, what a heartfelt message you had for us the day of the Newtown tragedy. Your sincere sorrow and despair were evident as you proclaimed that these 20 children will never see their ‘birthday, graduation, wedding, and grandchildren.’ What a powerful memory, of our leader expressing what so many were feeling.
But, what of the nearly 50,000,000 lives, yes, 50,000,000—more than 26, more than 3,000, that have been ended by the pro-choice of abortion since Roe vs. Wade 40 years ago? These children also did not have the option of following their pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. There may have been many a statesman or woman amongst them—have you thought of that?
Our society is following the path of many great civilizations that eventually came to ruin. People went from bondage, to spiritual truth, to great courage, to liberty, to abundance, to selfishness, to complacency, to apathy, to dependence, and then again to bondage. Is this where we are today?
A University of Edinburgh 18th century professor taught, “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government, for a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.” Is this happening to us?
Can we change? Can we do what may seem the impossible? Newtown was the result of a mentally disturbed individual and we know that many people are suffering similarly. Why? Could they all have been born with this proclivity?
Our society and the world are such that we do not recognize sin as often as it is evident! If not checked, it breeds more sin. Medicine or therapy only cannot heal those who first must realize the necessity of taking responsibility for their actions. We each have a conscience and need to learn how to develop it, to benefit ourselves and others.
That, America, is how we can become better citizens, and the nation we were intended to be. Let us become the world leaders we used to think we were, but for the right reasons. When we next hear or ask “God Bless America!” let us ask first for His forgiveness, then for His guidance in how we wish to help Him bless us.
