The annual alumni Fisherman’s Picnic baseball game is tonight (August 5) at 5 p.m.
Players come early so the teams can be decided.
For fans, the game will be played on the Arleigh Jorgenson baseball field which is located behind the high school.
The first Fisherman’s Picnic alumni game was played in 2016. Winning that first contest was the blue team (alumni who graduated after 2008.) The blue team soundly defeated the white team 15-7, but the teams were even when it came to the nothing but fun “trash” talking, an important statistic that doesn’t show up in well, the statistics.
Back in 2016 head CCHS Coach Arleigh Jorgenson said, “Baseball is a young man’s game,” which is true. But the inverse of that statement is that every “old” man becomes young again when he wrestles on his baseball glove, dons his rumpled baseball cap, picks up his weathered baseball and slowly trots out onto the baseball field where in his dreams, he’s moving gracefully like a cheetah across the field.
Be sure to come out and cheer the players on. The game is filled with rousing action between former teammates and friends. Come out and cheer for the “boys of summer”.
