Your boys’ Alpine team took first place in the largest Alpine event of the season while your girls’ team was second. It was a solid performance for our North Shore skiers.

The Centennial Race at Giants Ridge is a showcase of all schools in Section 7. Typically, the Vikings ski against up to eight teams in our region. The Centennial meet invites all 18 schools in our Section, which includes many schools from the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. There were 15 schools represented on this day. And the day belonged to Cook County/Silver Bay Vikings.

This race is the preamble to the Section meet, which follows just one week later. And at the Section meet, it’s all or nothing. Our Vikings have had an outstanding season to date. Many of our student athletes have experienced individual success this year (several first place finishes with many top 3-5 finishes) along with solid and consistent team performances throughout the season.

Unfortunately, how well they have done thus far is now history. It’s not like other sports where a favorable season with wins or losses gets you a better seed, or a bye or home field advantage. The Section meet is one race and one race only. And this is the race that will determine who advances to the state meet. Based on the season, the Vikings are focused and ready—and the last stage now is execution. They can do it—they are that good. Wish them good fortune and send positive vibes. Stay tuned.
