In 1976, Frampton Comes Alive served as the breakthrough album for Peter Frampton selling over 6 million copies in the U.S. and became one of the best selling live albums to date. Well, our Alpine Vikings are “coming alive” and their recent results are symbolic of Frampton’s hit singles from the same album. Here’s a sampling:

Do You Feel Like We Do? Clearly a classic. And if you are feeling like the Alpine Vikes, you are feeling good right now. The boys took first place at the Moose Mountain Invitational at Lutsen on January 12 with Anders Zimmer, Luke Fenwick, Dexter Yoki and seventh-grade standout Will Lamb placing 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th respectively.

And there’s more. Collin Berglund followed with an 11th place finish with Kyle Martinson, Joe Borud, and Logan Backstrom following in 13th, 21st and 22nd. At Mount Du Lac on Martin Luther King Day, Collin Berglund continued feeling good with yet another top finish in 9th place. Dexter Yoki was 14th and Joe Borud 20th.

Skiing in front of friends and family, Kyle Martinson (above) was pleased with his 13th place finish at the Moose Mountain Invitational. Seventh grader Jack Viren (left) recently placed first in a JV race and continues to improve with each race.

Ooh Baby I Love Your Way. What’s not to love about the girls’ Alpine team and their recent way? They are starting to gel as a team whereas earlier in the season, team consistency was hit and miss. Ava McMillan and Megan Lehto were 5th and 11th at the Moose Mountain Invite. Eighth-grader Morgan Weyrens Welch and seventh-grader Madysen McKeever finished 13th and 14th. Their results led to second place at Lutsen.

Signe Larson, Katie Smedstad, Ava McMillan and Megan Lehto came alive as a team at Mount Du Lac on MLK and finished 3rd, 4th, 12th and 14th Their results led to a team tie for first place…Love your way.

Show Me the Way. Our team veterans are showing the way to our young and up-and-coming. In fact, our team depth on both the boys’ and girls’ teams is showing that some of our younger skiers are now in team scoring position. Impressive. Coach Jim Vick continues to show (teach) the way to his team leading these kids to race levels that earlier in the season were only a distant thought. It’s real.

Jumping Jack Flash. Then there’s Jack Viren. Jack, a seventh grader has a JV victory under his belt followed by several recent finishes in the top half of the race field.

And the rest of the team is jumping up the leader board, as well.

Shine on. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams have had outstanding individual and team results so far this season (yes, with some slips, falls, miscues, wipe-outs, and disappointments that are often associated with this sport). Overall, however, both teams are skiing well. Three meets remain before the Section Meet on February 7.

And the plan is to Shine On.
