Alice Kincheloe, 93, of Minocqua, Wisconsin, passed away at Milestone Senior Living on Friday, August 5, 2016.
Better known as “Kit” to her friends and family, she was born on October 3, 1922, in Baltimore, Maryland. She spent her school years there, and she fondly remembered the many months she spent at Camp Montrose in the Maryland countryside. She later moved to Evanston, Illinois, with her mother, where Kit graduated from high school.
She met and married her husband Robert “Kinch” Kincheloe in nearby Chicago. They lived in Wilmette, Illinois, later moving to Sioux City, Iowa, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Barrington, Illinois, as a result of Kinch’s career responsibilities. Kit and Kinch were married for 50 years.
Kit and Kinch retired to North Carolina, where they enjoyed golfing and both had “extra” roles as ballroom dancers in the successful motion picture Dirty Dancing.
They spent more than 25 summers at their cabin on the Gunflint Trail near Grand Marais. Kit moved to the Minocqua area in 2001 to be closer to her daughters. She spent several years as a volunteer in the dialysis unit at the Howard Young Medical Center.
Kit devoted her life to caring for her family and raising her three daughters. She was very active throughout her life. She shared her love of animals and the outdoors with her family. She loved ice skating and was a talented amateur artist throughout her life, creating watercolors and oil paintings, as well as sculptures. In recent years, she enjoyed monthly meetings with her friends to play bunco.
She is survived by her three daughters: Jane Kincheloe of Minocqua, Barbara Coe (Paul) of Grand Marais, and Carol Latham (David) of Bradford, New Hampshire. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Robert Long (Amanda), Jeffrey Long, Sarah Coe, Bryan Coe (Erica) and Michael Zarosi, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kincheloe, her parents, all of her siblings and great-grandson, Lucas Coe.
