In July 2008, the Cook County Sheriff ‘s Department conducted an alcohol compliance check, resulting in six citations and $100 in penalties to servers and sales clerks. If you work in an establishment that sells or serves alcohol and would like to avoid such problems, training is available this month.
Cook County Higher Education in collaboration with Cook County Law Enforcement and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety is sponsoring an Alcohol Server Training workshop on Tuesday, June 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cascade Lodge Restaurant and Wednesday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Windigo Lodge Restaurant.
Bartenders, wait staff and all owners and operators of alcohol-dispensing establishments are highly encouraged to attend this informational training. As several servers found out last summer, the state of Minnesota, liability charges can be levied against the individual serving the alcohol as well as the owner. At this course participants will learn:
» Minnesota statutes relating to the sale/service of alcohol
» Procedures for checking identification
» How to identify minors
» How to manage customer drinking
» Methods of intervening with intoxicated persons
» Factors and signs of intoxication
The course will be taught by Brian Kringen, Law Enforcement Liaison Officer with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement and Mark Falk, Cook County sheriff. The fee for the training is $5 per person. Register at Cook County Higher Education for either seminar. Call CCHE at 387-3411 for more information and a registration form. Please register by Tuesday, June 16.
