Lake and Cook counties now have their own transportation advocate – Michelle Pederson, who will be at AEOA office in Two Harbors every Monday and Thursday to assist low income and entry level workers who have work-related transportation needs. She will also be in Grand Marais by appointment.
“Up in northern Minnesota, getting the right transportation can be tough,” said Pederson. “Cars break down in this very cold weather, and walking is often just not an option.”
If someone comes for help, the first thing Pederson will do is provide immediate transportation assistance. She has several tools in her toolbox which include volunteer drivers, bus passes, and ride share assistance. “Whatever it takes,” Pederson said. “If a person needs to get to work or to a job interview, we will get them there.”
Pederson will work personally with each client to figure out a long-term transportation strategy. She provides information and referral service for what is available. She will also assist in helping a client figure out a budget for their transportation needs.
Pederson is employed by the AEOA. She also has an office in Cloquet.
For transportation assistance, call 218-387- 1134 and leave a message or call Pederson at 218-730-7717. Her office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
