Cook County youth program representatives are happy to announce some great opportunities for kids—the Out of School Adventures program and an expanded Incredible Exchange program.
Out of School Adventures
Out of School Adventures for grades 1-8 will be starting Monday, September 10. Sessions will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:35 – 5:15 p.m.
Out of School Adventures will also offer some special allday activities for a fee of $15. Limited scholarships are available.
Information on Out of School Adventures—a calendar and registration information— will be sent home with Cook County students during the first week of school. Information is also available at the Cook County Community Education office.
The program is sponsored by Community Education, Cook County Extension and Cook County Kids Plus.
Incredible Exchange Interns
New this year is an expanded Incredible Exchange program. This pilot program for ages 16-18 will be called The Incredible Exchange Internship. Participants volunteer as interns at nonprofit or governmental “exchange sites” throughout Cook County in exchange for credit for a cultural or recreational opportunity of his or her choice such as a ski pass or art classes.
Besides earning the credit as a reward for volunteering, youth also practice valuable skills such as communication, writing a cover letter and resume, interviewing for a position, and taking responsibility for tasks.
Applications will be accepted at Community Education from Sept. 17 through Oct. 17.
The expanded Incredible Exchange program is thanks to the support of Arrowhead Electric Cooperative, Northland Foundation, county commissioners, Community Education, Cook County Extension and Kids Plus.
