The Acoustic Grooves concert held to raise funds for Arrowhead Animal Rescue (AAR) was an astounding success.

Local musicians donated their skills, time and passion for performing on October 29 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts for this good cause.

When the money was tallied, nearly $14,000 was brought in.

“Thank you to our Cook County friends who generously supported our efforts on behalf of AAR,” said Judy Curtis.

Bill and Judy Curtis created Liesl’s Fund to support AAR, in loving memory of their daughter Liesl Heston, who died two years ago at age 41 from ovarian cancer.

“Our many sponsors and auction donors, in addition to our friends at the Congregational UCC who baked a delicious array of treats, helped us to raise nearly $14,000. We are tremendously grateful to everyone. A special ‘thank you’ is extended to Kurt and Judy Bowman of Tofte. We are also very grateful to WTIP for their support in getting out the word.”

When injured, lost or abandoned animals have no place to go, or when something happens to an owner, and they are no longer able to care for their pets, the AAR steps into the rescue, providing immediate assistance. The AAR volunteers determine the best course of action by deciding how they can help each animal: such as feeding/housing/walking them by their small building near the Grand Marais Campground.
