A man from New Hope, Minn., suffered an accidental gunshot injury at a Tofte campsite on September 14. A call for emergency medical aid came in to Cook County Law Enforcement at 2:40 p.m., reporting that a male had shot himself in the leg with a shotgun on the south side of the Toohey Lake campground.
Toohey Lake is on the western end of Cook County, on the Four Mile Grade west of the Sawbill Trail, so emergency responders from Cook and Lake counties were paged. Tofte-Schroeder First Responders and Silver Bay Ambulance responded and the victim, Mark William Poseley, 59, New Hope, Minn. was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. At press time Poseley was still hospitalized.
Cook County Chief Deputy Leif Lunde said the weapon was actually a .357 magnum handgun. Poseley was holstering the weapon when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the left leg.
Cook County Sheriff ’s Office Deputies and Minn. Department of Natural Resources also responded. The Cook County Sheriff ’s Office is investigating the incident.
