Accident at Cross River injures one




An accident on Highway 61 near Cross River in Schroeder sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries on Monday, July 27.

Daniel Krmpotich, 59, of Duluth, Minnesota was traveling south in a 2013 Ford Focus at 10:58 a.m. He braked for a crosswalk. Behind him was Gary T. Severson, 60, of Sparta, Wisconsin, who swerved to avoid hitting Krmpotich.

A third vehicle, a 2012 Chevy Cruze, driven by Jack D. Wieben of Grand Marais, then hit both of the other vehicles.

All parties were wearing their seatbelts and only one person, Peggy K. Severson, 64, a passenger in the second vehicle was transported by Cook County Ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries.

The Ford Focus and Buick Enclave suffered minor damage, but the Chevy Cruse was totaled. It was towed from the scene by Cook County Towing.
