Abundant activities at the Care Center

With the falling temperatures outdoors, the residents at the Care Center are finding abundant indoor activities to keep them busy. Our annual Resident Council Holiday Sale will be held on December 1, and the craft projects are in full swing.

Along with the holiday crafts, there will be plenty of baking in the coming weeks. The residents will be hosting a “Break Time with Boldt” on November 14 as a thank you to the construction crew for their hard work. The elders plan on making their wonderful pumpkin bread in their new kitchen for the event.

The residents will mark Minnesota’s deer hunting opener by sharing their favorite deer hunting stories, reminiscing about the big one that got away and sharing some favorite venison recipes on November 4.

The monthly birthday party will be held on November 8 at 3 p.m. with cake, ice cream, and some excellent piano music with Doug Sanders. Celebrating birthdays this month are Skip Rouser, Joyce Hagen and Mary Liebsch.

On November 16, the residents are planning an outing to the Senior Center for lunch and visiting with their friends there. In the afternoon we will have our annual “Turkey Bingo,” giving the residents an opportunity to win a real turkey for their family or friends.

The Lioness Club will host a social time with their delicious desserts on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m., and Amy Schmidt will be providing the music for the event.

“Hilja’s Happy Hour” will kick off the holiday season on Tuesday, November 21 at 2:30 p.m. There will be festive snacks and drinks, and delightful holiday music.

The residents will enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Day on November 23. We’ll be watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in the morning, followed by a turkey dinner with all the fixings. In the afternoon, we will have a fun Thanksgiving Day game. Of course, there will be plentiful football on TV for those football fans too.

During this season of giving thanks, the residents and staff at North Shore Health Care Center want to express their gratitude to the many volunteers who so generously give their valuable time throughout the year. We also want to thank the community churches that share the effort to provide an ecumenical service for the residents every Sunday, and to Pastor Mark from Bethlehem Lutheran Church for providing a Bible Study every Tuesday.
