Today I had a Thelma and Louise morning in Annandale. Of course there wasn’t any drinking, or smoking, or shooting men, or fleeing for the Mexican border… so I guess the only REAL resemblance was two good friends riding around in a convertible.
For the record I was Thelma, because she was the one to “kiss” Brad Pitt in the movie. It was the most beautiful September day… sunny and 75 degrees. Trust me there is no better car to drive on a gorgeous day than a Mustang convertible.
OK let’s be clear, “Louise” wouldn’t let me actually drive the car, that’s her fun! The colors of the leaves were just starting to change and they were so vibrant. It was awesome!
I have always liked car rides in the fall. It reminds me of driving all the dirt back roads on the North Shore. We’d see more leaf than sky! These are colors you couldn’t paint unless you had a palette of fire. The air smells different too…. if you could bottle that you would be a millionaire. It smells fresh and crisp all at the same time. I might be wrong but this seems to be the shortest season. One day you have all the colors and fresh air then the next day you have bare trees and a foreshadow of the winter to come.
What could be better than a fall ride? A fall ride with a sweet treat! It’s no secret my favorite candy of all time is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, the fresher the better. This time of year you are guaranteed a fresh peanut butter/chocolate combination if you buy the Reese’s pumpkins! I only buy one (at a time) because I have no willpower against these treats. I think it might be the salt and sweet combination that I love. I guess it’s OK to enjoy a special candy now and then…after all sweater weather is right around the corner!
Peace, Sandy (or Thelma if you prefer)

crazy, this is just the first chance
you’ve had to express yourself.”
