In early June I was attending the state Republican convention in Duluth. I had to be one of the oldest representatives as a delegate and although a lady doesn’t give her age, I will say that my earliest involvement in politics was handing out “I Like Ike” buttons.
When arriving at the convention I was woefully over-burdened by a huge purse, a large bag full of goodies, my camera and then had added a big box of pastries. Assuring my husband I would be fine, I tumbled out of the car and into the convention door.
Seeing my situation I was approached by a wonderful gentleman who offered to help. He took all my belongings except my purse and escorted me to security to get into the convention floor. However when getting there I had forgotten my credentials back at the hotel and so had to go to another area about 1,000 extra feet away to get cleared and then back again to get into the convention.
All this time this helpful fellow was being approached by folks who wanted to talk to him. He kept walking with me and was so patient. We finally arrived onto the convention floor where I thanked him for his help and introduced myself. He, too, gave his name and with a big smile left me in good hands.
He said his name was Pete Stauber and I thought to myself what a wonderful person he was to help this old lady in distress and that this kind man would certainly make a good candidate for office some day.
Thank you again Pete Stauber, you saved my day.
