A renewed focus on community: CherryRoad Media Inc. expands by 20 publications

CherryRoad Media Inc. has made another exciting change and is pleased to announce the acquisition of 20 additional (existing) local news publications, formerly owned by Gannett Company, Inc. Within this positive expansion initiative will be a strong, renewed focus on local news reporting, community engagement, and local advertising. CherryRoad will remain committed to the individual spirit of each of the communities it serves and represents via print and digital news coverage. Every new paper brings along new opportunities to grow and to create strong community connections.

The new additions include five dailies and are published in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. “We are excited about this latest step in our adventure that began here in Grand Marais last fall with the News-Herald,” said Chief Executive Officer of CherryRoad Technologies Inc. and Executive Publisher of Cherry Road Media Jeremy Gulban. “Over the past ten months we have learned about how rewarding it is to own and invest in the growth of a local newspaper. This transaction will allow us to bring additional resources and talent into our organization, which will help us improve all 27 of our publications.”

CherryRoad currently owns and operates seven local newspapers which have flourished within the past year. We would like to thank all of them, and their respective communities for the positive feedback and trust they have allowed us, thus far. We plan to remain prominent in the fabric of your towns. These papers include: • The Cook County News Herald (Grand Maris, MN) • Rainy Lake Gazette (International Falls, MN) • The Clay County Courier (Corning, AR) • The Marshall Mountain Wave (Marshall, AR) The Pocahontas Star Herald • (Pocahontas, AR) • The Mountaineer Echo (Flippin, AR) • The Clayton Record (Clayton, AL)

As of October 1, 2021, the following newspapers are set to become part of the CherryRoad Media Inc. family. Please join us in welcoming the following publications: • The Linn County News (Brookfield, MO) • The Chillicothe Constitution Tribune (Chillicothe, MO) • The Boonville Daily News (Booneville, MO) • The Examiner (Independence, MO) • The Hays Daily News (Hays, KS) • The Garden City Telegram (Garden City, KS) • The Daily Globe (Dodge City, KS) • The Kiowa County Signal (Pratt, KS) • The McPherson Sentinel (McPherson, KS) • The Newton Kansan (Newton, KS) • The Butler County Times Gazette (El Dorado, KS) • The Wellington Daily News (Wellington, KS) • The Ottawa Herald (Ottawa, KS) • The Penny Press (Hiawatha, KS) • The Leavenworth Times (Leavenworth, KS) • The Nebraska City News- Press (Nebraska City, NE) • The Syracuse Journal Democrat (Syracuse, NE) • The Hamburg Reporter (Hamburg, IA) • The St. John News (St John, KS) • The Pratt Tribune (Pratt, KS)

Adding these papers will bring along both experienced talent and fresh ideas. CherryRoad has jumped headfirst into this new, exciting opportunity and has begun to answer the question of, “Where else can we make a difference using technology?” Some new websites for the newspapers have already been created and will include streamlined ways for readers to interact with both weekly news and paid advertisers.

With almost 40 years of experience, the media company operates under the parent company of CherryRoad Technologies Inc., based out of Parsippany, New Jersey. Since late 2020, after the initial purchase of the Cook County News Herald in Grand Maris, Minnesota circulations have increased across the board by about 10 percent. This steady increase in readership is a result of additional content offered and a renewed focus on community engagement. CherryRoad is, “Dedicated to this industry and to making local news better and more sustainable.” This has been an unbelievably rewarding process and experience.

From all of us at CherryRoad, we thank you! We are proud to be in your homes each week and will work even harder to earn your support in the months and years to come.
