A preview with curry





 

 

The Grand Marais Playhouse is busy preparing its 45th season of high quality theater in Grand Marais. Three shows are currently in production and an amazing lineup of special events are being finalized.

You can see scenes of all the upcoming summer events in one fun evening on June 18 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Before the show, from 6-7 p.m., come and enjoy some wonderful curry dishes for a suggested donation of only $10.

The showcase will begin at 7 p.m. in the ACA auditorium. Suggested donation for the showcase is $15. Advance tickets for the event are available on-line.

We will open with a scene from Eleemosynary by Lee Blessing which opens June 25 at 7:00 p.m. and runs June 25 – 28, and July 2- 5. The Eleemosynary cast is Melanie Stoddard, Hannah Nickolay and Louise Reavis. It will be directed by Jackson Nickolay.

Members of our summer repertory will take the stage with songs from I Love You, You’re Perfect. Now Change by Joe DiPietro, will be performed by Mark Abrahamson, Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux, Jackson Nickolay and Karina Roth with Kay Costello on piano. Attendees will also see scenes from the comedic hit from Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo. The cast of Moon Over Buffalo includes Marcia Hyatt, Bob Carter, Braidy Powers, Sarah Stover, Kevin Kager, Sarah Metis, Tom Christiansen and Jan Healy. Both shows are directed by Sue Hennessy. The summer stage crew will be introduced as well. The Grand Marais Summer Theater Festival runs July 16 – August 9!

Moon over Buffalo, by Ken Ludwig, is a comic look at the lives of a traveling acting troupe. The play has been a Broadway favorite, featuring Frank Langella and Joan Collins and later Phillip Bosco and Carol Burnett. Bringing a hilarious swordfight to life on the Arrowhead Center for the Arts stage are Bob Carter and Marsha Hyatt. This is a comedy not to be missed!

Cellist Yvonne Caruthers will be with us on June 18 to give us a sample of her one woman show In Search of the Perfect G String, which will be performed on August 15 at 7:30.

Monroe Crossing returns to Grand Marais for a special event at the ACA on September 3 at 7:30 p.m. If you’ve never heard this group perform live it is a must! We’ll show a video from the group at our June 18 event. Monroe Crossing typically sells out so get your tickets early.

For Labor Day weekend, the Playhouse has invited the real life husband and wife acting team of Mike and Julie Benson to present Ole and Lena at the State Fair. Our preview will include a scene from one of their hilarious performances.

Performances are September 4 and 5 at 7 p.m.

If you purchase tickets to any of the upcoming events during this preview evening, you will save $1 on each ticket. If you become a member a sponsor or upgrade your membership or sponsorship, you will be entered in a drawing for a really cool prize to be announced at the event.

A special note for summer parking: All Arrowhead Center for the Arts parking is now in the Sawtooth Elementary parking lot at the top of 1st Avenue East. Please use main entrance in the front. The upper lot immediately behind the ACA will be reserved for handicap parking.
