Each year it seems a new time comes
When hearts are moved, and hearts
are won
When lights upon a tree, set for festive joy
Turn bright
And reverse the dark of satan’s ploy
Who’d make us think:
“There isn’t a God !… How could that
be?
Look at all the dangers troubles turmoils Lack of good and daily toils.”
“There isn’t a God! How could there
be?”
satan would so like us to hear and be
Turned away from seeing good
Turned away from holding firm
To God being present, here within us,
here on this earth…
But God is God
And so satan’s toils troubles dangers
– all tiny part of satan’s ploy – are
unhinged, left empty
If we but let ourselves turn and see:
The light with most beauty is not a
lovely Christmas tree
(Tho’ lovely lovely it is and for the
eyes of our child-like hearts is meant
to be)
But the light of most beauty is rather
this:
In those days, the time came, to
deliver a child and
Long ago and yesterday and tomorrow too
God from always has come to earth
To give God new birth
That in unlikeliest of moments
Time stand stills yet moves mountains Of human disbelief and fear
Of human willingness to not believe
that which
Sun and moon and angels and goodwill Proclaim
That, that very lowly infant
Wrapped in bands of cloth
(and were it here in snowy fir-tree
land blanket bands)
That infant was the one laid in simple
cradle, dresser-drawer, or arms of
mother and father
Who happy within awe stand
And sing
Ahhhhhhhhh
Just like our little one
Here in our arms
Some children see the Christ child
And know he they resembles
Lily-white or bronzed and brown, or
one with almond eyes
So children see with un-open eyes,
And to them Jesus them is beside
And then they hear angels sing
to God
Our differences make no difference
For Love has Come and is within us
around us
Surrounds us
So that we too can sing
It came upon a midnight clear….
Away in a manger…
Back in those days long ago
empire and emperor and satan too
Lost the power to keep our souls
For GOD HAS COME WITH LOVE
TO BRING!
Ahhhhh
Yes
Good Christian friends REJOICE
With heart and soul and voice
For infant holy
Infant lowly with bed only in a
manger stall
That wee one
(As odd as it is meant to seem
As easy to doubt as it seems to be )
That wee child
Is God’s gift to we
So that we can now sing
Christ the Child is Lord of all
Even in that cattle stall
Christ the Child was born for all
AHHH
And angels in multitudes above
Sang with voices like our own words
of treasure and of love
Peace on earth
Goodwill to all
And then upon a silent night
With candles in our hands we join
With angels, shepherds, wise men too
And sing, “Silent night, holy night,”
All is calm, all is bright…
And radiant beams of thy holy face,
son of God, love’s pure light
Jesus, our Lord, at your birth
You bring with you to us and earth
Love of God,
Ah across the centuries, story that is
not story
Told retold
For it brings Good News true and
bold!
Christ the Child was born for you…
And so each mother’s father’s child,
Born each in different place,
Born each with different face
Can lay aside each earthly thing
Even or especially all satan’s temptings And find our hearts make perfect
gifts and offerings
To bring unto our Lord and King,
tiny infant, of whom we rejoice,
to whom we sing! Rejoice! It is
Christmas!
Christ has Come…you are won!
Amen
