Cook County News-Herald’s newest staff member is Abby Fincel, who will be selling advertising and also covering meetings and events. The multi-talented young lady graduated college in 2½ years and recently published her first book, The Forest in the Mirror, a fantasy work of fiction for young adults.

A hop in her step and rarely seen without a smile on her face, Abigayl “Abby” Fincel has been hired to sell advertising and to write for the Cook County News-Herald. Many people will recognize Abby from her previous work as a cashier at Gene’s Foods.

A 2014 graduate of St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul, Abby graduated with a B.A. in English and a minor in communications, completing her degree in 2 ½ years.

With these disciplines, she has the perfect skills to sell ads and do some writing for the newspaper.

Hailing originally from International Falls, in 2009 Abby moved to Grand Marais with her parents, Doug and Tammy Fincel, three brothers and two sisters. Doug works at the U.S. Border in Customs and Tammy is a busy stay at home mom who also home schools the kids. The family lives about five miles out of town in the country.

One of Abby’s passions is writing, something she began in earnest when she was 9 years old. She recently finished and published The Forest in the Mirror, a fantasy novel for young adults. She held a book signing at Java Moose on Saturday, October 10. This is her first foray into publishing, but hopefully not her last.

Abby also likes to downhill ski, canoe, and camp in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

For all of your advertising needs, please contact Abby at (218) 387- 9100 or email her at heraldads@boreal.org.
