Cook County News Herald

A little Cook County brought to the table in Florida

I was reading the News- Herald article on the Angry Trout salad dressing, which reminded me of our last trip to Daytona Beach to visit our breakfast gang of old biker dudes.

Charlie, a retired motorcycle cop from upstate New York, brings in little treats each morning. He’s the only single guy at our table, so we get fancy cheeses, hams, cookies, etc. This morning he puts a little jar with “Gunflint Trail” in front of me, and then I saw “Chokecherry Jelly” – was that ever good! He got it online.

The restaurant has a new owner and she doesn’t want Charlie to leave his treat basket overnight any more. The guys were riding the next day and we were heading home, so we only got one piece of toast with that wonderful chokecherry jelly, but one piece is better than none.
