A post to Facebook following a Trinity Lutheran Church youth group event on Tuesday, June 16, declared, “Here’s what Hovland kids do for fun.”
The pictures with the post show brave “kids” of all ages taking the plunge into chilly Lake Superior to raise funds for an upcoming trip to a National Youth Gathering in Detroit, Michigan in mid-July.
The community was invited to “join the fun” of jumping off the dock. Everyone was required to wear a life jacket and a ladder helped the frozen jumpers back onto the dock. A changing tent was available and then a cozy bonfire.
Community members—the jumpers and the donors—enjoyed hotdogs and s’mores after the jumps.
The youths are raising money for transportation, meals, housing, and service projects, as well as worship and learning events with 30,000 youth from around the U.S.
