A homey house

If you know me personally, you know that I love a great rummage sale…I can get a “runners high” when I find a great deal. I have to believe it is the same feeling a gambler has when hitting a jackpot. I recently went rummage sale-ing with my sweet neighbor and her mother in Buffalo. Two 100-foot extension cords for 2 bucks was a score!

I do have rummage sale rules though…no projects, no animal cages as we are not expanding our menagerie with rodents or chickens, and absolutely no Christmas decorations as I have about 20 bins in the attic already…. no good deal is worth bin number 21.

I did come across a fun find in a “free” box last week. It was a deck of cards called 52 ways to make your house a home. One of the cards was actually “finding homey accents for your home at garage sales,” so score! I have that one covered.

It also said to make a list of what you’re looking for and stick to that…. um, no…. do you think I had werewolf hands and mask on my list at Swappers Meet? And yet they are now in my Halloween box ready for a Trail of Terror.

Another card was all about putting photos everywhere to make your home comfy…got that covered. Add some plants, yup. Throw pillows and super soft blanket are stacked everywhere. Have some “Furry Friends,” well four dogs are probably the max I can handle although a yellow canary named Sunny will hopefully be joining the family soon as we no longer have a cat. (Sadly Johnny Depp was eaten several years ago by Mr. Mistofolees.)

One card also said to have a guestbook for people to sign… we have two variations of that depending on your guest status…. if you stay over and take a shower, you can write a message in Sharpie in our guest room shower, if you are a porch guest you will be asked to paint a picture for our coffee table.

Of course my favorite Home Sweet Home idea was “Kiss The Cook”… to quote, nothing seems as homey as the smell of baking bread or cookies. I can attest to this. I don’t get the same reaction to baked kale chips as I do to the smell of brownies! So I decided to help you with your homey home in the only way I can…recipes that make your house smell like heaven.

Home is not a place,
it’s a feeling.
