A hearty bowl of soup

The Empty Bowls fundraiser at the Congregational Church Thursday, November 12, 2009 brought 250 people who spent $3,501 on their soup suppers to benefit the Cook County Food Shelf. A grant from the Cook County Community Foundation and donations from local businesses underwrote the cost of putting on the event. The silent auction of artwork by local artists raised an additional $1,996, most of which will be used for Empty Bowls 2010. All leftover food from the dinner – about 10 gallons of soup and multiple loaves of bread -- was donated to the Cook County Food Shelf. Above Right: Greta Roth in front of the bowl she picked out. Many volunteers and schoolchildren throughout the community made bowls for participants to take home with them.
