This small book is written and illustrated by Karin Jentoft, who created the story for children who enjoy the small critters of our north woods forest. The chipmunk families featured are as excited as their human counterparts when summer comes and it’s time for the enjoyable competition of their annual canoe races on the Gunflint Trail.
It’s written in an easy-to-read style. I’m sure the imaginative story and expressive illustrations that the author has presented will delight both kids and grown-ups. It would make a nice bed time read for your family. The book can be purchased at Nor’ Wester Lodge or Gunflint Lodge or ordered on-line at www.mossyhollowbooks.com.
The author/illustrator spent summers during her growing up years in the Hungry Jake Lake area, on the Gunflint Trail. She later came back and became a twoyear volunteer with the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department, and a heavy equipment operator with Gunflint Trail Excavating, before heading off to graduate from Harvard at Boston. She has traveled extensively through Europe, but, finds her heart still comes back to our north woods.
