A Cook County Christmas













One of the first Christmas events of the year—and possibly the most popular—is the Annual Community Christmas concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on the first Sunday and Monday of December. An amazing 95 community members raised their voices to “Sing Peace, Sing Peace, Sing Gift of Peace” at this year’s concert, which was dedicated to long-time director B.J. Muus and his wife Alice. The concert was directed by Bill Beckstrand.

Shoppers enjoyed some early holiday shopping at the Hovland Arts Festival on Saturday, November 27. Artwork filled tables and lined the walls of the Hovland Town Hall.

The Northwoods Fiber Guild Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 4 at the Grand Marais Art Colony not only had beautiful fiber items, but also a wonderful craft table where visitors could make lovely little Christmas booklets. Working on special booklets are Nancy Haarmeyer, Linda Chappell, Nancy Kemp, Nina Simonowicz.

Linda McIntire and Gayle Harvey were among the talented crafters at the Evangelical Free Church Christmas Craft Show and Bake Sale on Saturday, December 4. Shoppers also enjoyed a delicious lunch with proceeds benefiting the “Feed My Starving Children” program.

Santa’s helpers! The Girl Scout Northern Lights Service Unit held a Santa’s Workshop at the Cook County Community Center to help kids find the perfect gift for mom or dad.
