In the July 1, 2017 news column by Dale McIntire, he questions as to what he would do if it were close to the end of his life. Coincidentally, my oncologist had just told me that I had a very rare form of thyroid cancer, and that I would not have a long time to live.
Most of my friends were amazed with my positive attitude, but after nearly dying almost 50 years ago in a horrific pedestrian-car accident, I realized how much value my life had accumulated. Reflections came to me of the abundant grace God had given me!
I have had the gift of 46 years of marriage to a wonderful man, two beautiful children, family and friends who supported me, and a church I have loved. Nineteen of my years have been spent in Cook County, and I have constantly seen the outpouring of goodness.
Now that I am on the receiving end of this generosity, I want to thank my family, my friends in Cook County and Tait Lake, and my church community of St. John’s. Your love has given me strength, especially with my ongoing chemotherapy treatments. I have also been touched by my daughter and her fiance’s (now husband) concern that her mother attends her wedding. With the help of family and friends we planned a wedding in one week that took place in Harbor Park on the beach. This heart-warming event helps put life in perspective. Sometimes you don’t have all the time in the world, but what time you have smile and spread the sunshine of the coolest small town in the USA and the coolest county.
